a Poem by Raquel Swann

Can you somehow comprehend

what it’s like to be different?

In a world full of

greens and blues

I realize I’m purple.

The ordinary think me odd

I call it, extraordinary.

Will you walk with me

through crowds of

greens and blues

warding off piercing stares,

deflecting verbal bullets

aimed at my heart?

Can you not see that purple,

green, or blue, or red, or brown,

or even yellow,

are built from the same design?

Can you be colorblind

and allow yourself

to love?

To understand?

To accept?
